Description

Outputs zero while the input is within ±Half-width. Outside that band the output is the input shifted toward zero by Half-width, so it is continuous at the band edges.

Example

Nonlinearities Saturation, dead zone, relay, and rate limiter acting on the same sine.

Ports

Inputs 1

  • u

    Input signal.

Outputs 1

  • y

    Output signal.

Parameters

  • Half-widthstart0.1

    ≥ 0

    Half-width of the dead band. 0 or more; 0 passes the input unchanged.

Equations

Modelica
y = u − start if u > start
y = u + start if u < −start
y = 0 otherwise

Implementation

The block’s Modelica model
y = if u > start then u - start else (if u < -start then u + start else 0);

Assumptions and limitations

  • The band is symmetric around zero.
